Self-Professed Book Hoarders

I hate weak heroines and Sakina is a weak heroine. In part one (Turned) she was forever crying ... wanting to cry ... allowing herself to be bullied/not defending herself ... infinitely irritating. But in her defense she lacked self confidence, suffered from low self esteem and physical/verbal abuse from her mother. As a female lead I just expected more from her character as the story progressed. There were snippets here and there but not enough to fully develop her character. What really bother me is that so far the reader never really found out what the mother's problem with her was. I assumed it was tied to the prologue in some way but the connection isn't really made in regards to that.
