In the Line of Fire

In the Line of Fire - Jett Munroe The pretty, Delaney Murphy is the product of a cheating/abusive husband and a verbally abusive mother. How was she to believe she was a beautiful person inside and out if the two people she loved most only beat her down? So, the shy uncertain Delaney is free to discover who she really is.

Neck breakingly tall Beck is just the man to help with all these new discoveries that Delaney is about to make. Beck Townsend is an ex Marine, handsome, tall and possibly every woman's dream, has been keeping his eye on Delaney . He hopes that she is the answer to his prayers, his dream of finding love and being accepted for who he is.

The characters in this tale were well developed and I would like to get to know more about the secondary characters. Especially, the other members of Beck's group. The story as a whole seems to have something missing. It seems that that the entire story missed some spark or some type of zap something ... something that would draw you further in. Overall rating is 3.0

Desiring Red

Desiring Red (A Dark and Dirty Tale) - Kristin Miller

Blue eyed and flaxen haired Ivy has a dilemma, she has to join a pack before it's too late. To make things scarier her chosen pack (Arcana Pack) requires that she chooses a mate. So, how and who do you choose when you don’t know anyone? Well, good ole Fate (that twisted sister) has a way of stepping in when you least expect it. Yep, Fate is that lady who sometimes pitches unsuspecting victims deeper in the poo and poor, poor Ivy doesn't know what hit her when a little breather turns into Fate’s Special Poop Hole.

Honestly, I think that I kinda envy the girl. If the Special Poop Hole are two absolutely gorgeous alpha males then sign me up. Reaper the passionate former alpha of the Arcana pack didn't return to his granny’s fairytale castle expecting to find his possible future. but when fate throws him a treat wearing a nice red cloak, how can he not take a bite. Ivy and Reaper are drawn to one another immediately and he could be the answer to her mate dilemma. But as Poop Holes go … it only gets deeper and as she comes out the other side there is the pack alpha Lukas.

So, I like a good retelling of a classic fairytale. Who doesn't know the story of Little Red Riding Hood and wondered what the heck was she really doing in those woods. Well, this Red may have a little of the little cinder girl mixed in because she has two princes (of sorts) who happen to be worthy in their own right. The characters fit the tale very well because have Red the not so classic damsel but as the reader you have to decide which alpha is the real Big Bad Wolf.

Dominating Red

Dominating Red - Kristin Miller Dominating Red (After Dark and Dirty Tale) part two of the serial picks up right where the first installment stops. Now, the reader has the chance to experience Lukas, the Arcana pack leader. The possessive Lukas is nothing like his first born cousin Reaper. Where Reaper is all Insta-passion with our curvy heroine (Ivy), Lukas is calculated and controlled. How will dear Ivy ever choose between the two?

Sometimes, when a story has two likable male leads it's hard to figure out who to cheer for. Do you cheer for the dark and kind of broody former alpha (Reaper) with his tall built frame? Or do you cheer for leaner Lukas who is equally impressive? Lastly, as the reader do you just throw your hands up and say “who cares” because you want to know what happens next? Honestly, I just want to know what happens next.

Love Ms. Miller’s writing style and I've enjoyed the first two installments of this serial. Though the page count is short, I always enjoy a retelling of a classic fairytale. I wish there was more pack interaction (just me wanting the installments to last a little longer) but the author does a great job focusing on the main characters.

Half Wolf (Alpha Underground Book 1)

Half Wolf (Alpha Underground Book 1) - Aimee Easterling review coming. 4.5 rating.

Forgotten Promises

Forgotten Promises - Jessica Lemmon
Unexpectedly intense read with an unexpected hero. The story has a storyline that's just heart breaking. Tucker is an escape artist of sorts. His escapes haven’t been from the prison cell he’d been sitting in. Nor was it from an after hours bank heist. Tucker spent his young life escaping from a nightmare that happened to be his father. So, Tucker the antihero is the only cape worthy figure of this semi dark tale. Even though he’s reluctantly wearing his cape … that heavy mantle of past sins, current nightmares, and future hope. But once confronted with his own personal devil (aka dear ole dad) any hope of the future is fading fast.

Morgan Young is the untainted ‘good girl’ that gives Tucker’s hope new life. Tucker isn’t what Morgan’s perfect life expected but Tucker is what her life needed. You see, Tucker has been her hero long before they reunite in that deserted parking lot. So, at the end of the crappiest birthday she has ever spent, Morgan never expected to get the biggest gift of her life.

Thought Forgotten Promises isn’t the traditional love story it does end with a well-deserved HEA. Tucker’s innocence takes the reader’s breath away and Morgan’s courage helps to move story forward. There are parts of this story that I prayed that the author didn't give a full description because my heart just couldn't take it. There are parts that as the reader I wished I could've scooped the hero up and protected him. This definitely was a good one.

Bad Boys After Dark: Mick

Bad Boys After Dark: Mick - Melissa Foster Amanda Jenner is out to add a little spice to her love life. Tired of attracting Mr. Boring and Mr. Predictable she sets out with her purse sized guide book with changing this in mind. Dressed and ready for her new role, the pretty paralegal attracts the one man she believed she couldn't have.

Mick Bad (he’s so bad in all the right ways) isn’t looking for a permanent relationship. Heck, he isn’t looking for anything close to one at all. But coming across Amanda ignites all his buried desires. Mr. Bad is in a really tough place. Does he cross the line with his employee? Can he have Amanda and walk away?

This was an enjoyable romantic tale with just enough kink that keeps the reader's eyes glued to the pages. Though the main characters have an established relationship (co-workers and connection through previous characters) there’s still enough room left to watch these characters navigate towards their HEA. Would have been good to have these characters start without any prior knowledge of one another but this doesn't hinder this from being a good read. Appearances from the other Bad boys give readers a glimpse of the male leads for future installments for this series. Overall rating 3.5.

Stiff

Stiff: A Stepbrother Romance - B. B. Hamel
Sometimes, its hard to balance a good plot with the kink that's needed to fit in a specific genre. With this entry by BB Hamel a good balance was almost met. The male lead (Easton) a former FBI agent is back home after taking the wrap for a bad call by his former partner. Drowning in self pity, he's not interested in rising above mediocre. For all his cockiness, Easton is a real softy. As for his counterpart, Laney is smart and well matched with Easton. I feel that its important in these stories that one character doesn't overshadow the other.

Now, back to the balance. Stiff was a good story because it didn't constantly revolve around the main characters attraction to one another. Yeah, there is the traditional eye-popping scenes and the book definitely lives up to it's name. I was more intrigued by the secondary plot and the serial killer. This portion of the story should have been expanded a little more. Overall rating for this one is 3.5.

Cocked

Cocked: A Stepbrother Romance - B. B. Hamel
What an exciting race to the finish line!
There wasn't any sacrificing of the story in this to fit in more coitus. Though the scenes where it occurs is smoking' ... it wasn't the main focus or the main, main focus.

Car thief to CIA informant, Camden is in alot of trouble and he's brought hell to his family's door. Being the self-sacrificing hero that he is, no one is going to die on his watch ... unless he kills them personally. Camden is a well developed male lead and was a joy to read.

Lacey, the forever good girl has been angry with Camden ever since he disappeared. So, when he shows up out of the blue saying everyone is in danger, she's not having it. As far as she's concerned Camden can just disappear again. Lacey's is a strong female lead and is willing to get her hands dirty. I always believe that female characters can do a little more than wait for rescue and Lacey steps in to try to do just that. Both lead characters fit well together and Cocked was suspenseful enough to keep the reader wondering.

Runes of Fate

Runes of Fate - Lena North

This was absolutely not what I expected. Going in I thought that I was going to get Norse gods interacting with our heroine. Thought that she was going to gain some sort of supernatural gift from the gods or she was going to complete some miraculous feat that only she could do. But as I read, this first installment of the Sissa Raudulfsdatter series (Runes of Fate) wasn't what I expected it to be.

Our heroine (Sissa) is a smarter than average slave girl (but not exactly a slave) who dreams of the possibility of freedom someday. Or at least to end up in a comfortable home with a owner that would be considerate of her. Those dreams are shattered when she is offered up as a sacrifice to the gods, but fate has a way of changing a person's destiny. Now, Sissa has to prove that her spared life was worth saving and find the individuals responsible for her still being alive.

Simply, this was a who done it that was executed nicely. There are twists and turns throughout this read but it never lost focus. The main characters are well developed and the secondary characters hold the readers interest as well. Now, Sissa didn't get any super powers but for the time period the story was set she had something better. She possessed courage and above average smarts. Looking forward to reading what happens next in this series.

Cuffed by the Best

Dirty Sexy Cuffed (Dirty Sexy Series Book 3) - Carly Phillips, Erika Wilde
Sarah Robins isn’t the drop dead gorgeous heroine that some readers come to expect. No, Ms. Robins has had a hard go of it in her young life but it’s just something about her character that makes the reader like her a lot. Brown haired and blue eyed Sarah is operating in survival mode and she really doesn't have time for romantic notions. But if she had time for such things, Levi Kincaid would be the ideal candidate for the job.

What’s that old adage … it’s always the quiet ones and the quiet one , Levi Kincaid makes Dirty Sexy Cuffed a worthwhile read. The quiet unassuming Kincaid brother commands the reader’s interest. His quiet demanding personality is front and center throughout the pages. Sarah makes his control slip but I guess that’s what happens when one character finds their other half. Both Levi and Sarah are so well suited. From book one of this series the readers learn about the heart breaking circumstances the Kincaid boys grew up in. In this latest installment the reader gains the opportunity to read about the female counter part to their struggle. With similar childhood backgrounds both Levi and Sarah grew up without parents and lacking love. After finding out about the heroine’s background, the reader gains the opportunity to feel for her. Like all other alpha males, Levi rushes to her rescue.

As a male lead, Levi is attractive with green eyes and happens to be a bit kinky. It seems that the quiet ones always have something going behind the calm façade. He is supposed to be controlling domineering in the bedroom area but the intensity that is promised isn’t completely fulfilled. But this is just a small component of his character and doesn't detract from the hero factor that Levi has going for him. What the reader really gets to view with Levi is the abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother and how those experiences colored his adult life. Though I like a happy ending, I would have liked a little more interaction between the male lead and his rival. A little more antagonizing between the two would have put the story over the top.

One of the highlights of the story is that the previous characters of the other installments of this series show-up. As always, the interaction between the three Kincaid brothers is entertaining and have the reader wishing for more.

Werewolf Romance: Seduced By The Alpha Wolf (Wolf Shifter Romance, Alpha Billionaires Bride, BBW Paranormal Romance)

Werewolf Romance: Seduced By The Alpha Wolf (Wolf Shifter Romance, Alpha Billionaires Bride, BBW Paranormal Romance) - Kaycee Kline This was definitely had my eyebrows almost permanent stuck hairline. Really liked the voice the author gave Marie the heroine and how this retelling of Beauty and the Beast progressed. But there are definitely some portions I had to adjust to to complete this read. I found that the characters are likable and that the male leads (even though they are the same character) are intriguing. Overall 3.5

The Other Brother Part 1: Forbidden

The Other Brother Part 1: Forbidden - Lauren Hawkeye, Tawny Stokes review coming. 3.5

Cade

Cade - V.A. Dold Not good ... not good at all. It wasn't the characters but the writing. Read like set of directions or something similar.

Betting on Wolves

Betting on Wolves - Roxie Noir Light easy read with two drunken wolves and recent divorcee. Overall, it was enjoyable.

Running with Wolves (Shifter Country Wolves Book 1)

Running with Wolves (Shifter Country Wolves Book 1) - Roxie Noir Not as gritty as I would have liked but definitely holds the readers interest. Ended too soon but good shifter story.

Fury's Kiss: New England Furies Book 1

Fury's Kiss: New England Furies Book 1 - Nicola R. White Furies ...
Was on the fence about this one because initially I had trouble connecting with both female and male lead. Not to mention, reading about Furies isn't my norm but I decided to give it a go. I can honestly say that I wasn't disappointed. The storyline is good even if I have/had a problem with the lead characters.

Tara Walker is just a young lady working hard to fulfill some of her dreams. Then an attack by a not too bad looking stranger changes everything in an instant. Now, she must move forward with the . Tara as the the female lead took to getting used to. I found her to be a little too happy go lucky when it came to being possessed by an ancient Grecian god (of sorts). Her character kind of automatically fell into superhero mode rather quickly. Not that she's supposed to sit back and brood about it but there is something missing between discovery and full steam ahead. Never the less, the author wrote a strong female lead to introduce readers to the series.

The male lead, Jackson Byrne on the other hand is hard to like. His character is so hot and cold. He's just an a-hole times 100 but I think that is just a part of his appeal. He wasn't one of those I see you, I love you and now let me hump your leg the rest of the book kind of lead. He has the sex appeal some readers look for but Jackson's character isn't the smoldering looks kind of guy. His character's personality fits considering he's a former Navy Seal.

The really great thing about Fury's Kiss are the secondary characters. They're all good and memorable. The other good thing about the story is that it started off full steam ahead and didn't stop until the final action sequence.

Overall I give this a 3.5 rating.
